The Samsonas BMW G20 dampers tested under racing conditions

by Vilius Šaltenis

Samsonas Motorsport is no stranger to the work and development of dampers. As early as 2000, we were interested in the question of how to achieve maximum grip on the road, followed by servicing and selling dampers from other brands. But the real work started about eight years ago in the old Samsonas factory, where the production of Samsonas dampers began. So we have traveled quite a some distance and gained experience by designing, testing and developing our dampers. We have mainly worked on the rally dampers and have had great success with them on RWD, FWD and AWD cars. More lately, we have concentrated on the hard surface – circuit racing, time attack and drift, where our transmissions are also very successful. After some individual projects, we began cooperation with LIK Racing by KTK, a joint force of the Lithuanian Engineering College and Kaunas University of Technology.

  • – Monotube dampers
  • – 3-way adjustable
  • – Front camber adjustment
  • – Adjustable spring preload
  • – Front piggyback reservoir
  • – Rear remote reservoir
  • – Compatible with the OEM swaybar links

When the new BMW Turbo Cup class was introduced in the Baltic Touring Car Championship (BaTCC) with BMW G20 cars, we started to work on dampers for this class together with LIK Racing by KTK. After many tests and development phases and more than a thousand kilometers driven on the race track, this spring we finally had the opportunity to see how the Samsonas Motorsport dampers for BMW G20 cars work in the real racing environment. At the first BaTCC round, the STATETA BRO GrandPrix, LIK Racing by KTK fielded three Samsonas-equipped BMW G20s in the new BMW Turbo Cup, driven by Algirdas Gelžinis, Mantas Jasiulevičius and Tadas Kaminskas. Mantas Jasiulevičius set the second-fastest time in qualifying.

The conditions were really difficult the next day, as the Nemuno Žiedas circuit was constantly battered by rain. Nevertheless, the cars equipped by Samsonas and entered by LIK Racing by KTK coped well and Algirdas Gelžinis won the first race of the BaTTC BMW Turbo Cup. In the second race, Mantas Jasiulevičius finished on the podium in P3.

After the race, Tomas Martinkus, the project organizer of LIK Racing by KTK, shared a few thoughts about the BMW Turbo Cup cars with Samsonas dampers under racing conditions

Our team is satisfied with the Samsonas Motorsport dampers and the work we have done with them. Together, we have come a long way, but we are not standing still and want to have a product that is optimal in its final version. It’s great to finally have dampers that we can fully adjust and these adjustments are fully reflected in the behaviour of the car on the track. So this process and the collaboration with Samsonas Motorsport is beneficial for all of us. The team has achieved good results in the first race of the season and with more work we will achieve even better results.

Work continues to improve performance and the next BaTTC race will take place in a month’s time at the Bikernieki circuit.
