This weekend, the European Drift Masters GP was held in Spain at the Ricardo Tormo racetrack near Valencia. A total of 50 drifters took part in this first round, including 16 cars equipped with Samsonas Motorsport gearboxes. After qualifying on Friday, only the 32 best drivers remained for the final on Saturday. 11 of them drove with Samsonas. B.Čirba managed to finish second after qualifying.
When the battle of the Top32 started, it didn’t look so good – M.Vacca and J.Poytalaakso were defeated by their rivals, J.Rintanen and O.Nilsen also met for a duel, which O.Nilsen won. Later there was another Samsonas-equipped duel, which K. Piskolty won against F. Roche. Later there was better news – B. Čirba, C. van Oort and M. Keski-Korpi entered the Top16 battles. Unfortunately, E. Krogeris, J. Andersson, and J. Shanahan fell short of the top 16.
During the Top16 battles, B. Čirba drove confidently into the Top8, while K. Piskolty performed true miracles in a run without a handbrake. He showed tremendous driving skills and the judges asked drivers to do their duel one more time. After a short break, which was enough for the Hungarian to repair his handbrake, he also made it through to the next round. There was another Samsonas duo battle between M. Keski-Korpi and C. van Oort with the Dutchman coming out on top.
In the Top 8, the aforementioned C. van Oort met B. Čirba. Among the two yellow drift cars, the Lithuanian Eurofighter advanced to the semi-finals, while K. Piskolty was beaten by the Mega-Drive of L. Heinonen.
Despite B. Čirba’s very good performance, the Lithuanian had to concede victory to L. Heinonen and in the battle for third place, A. Zalewski was the one to take the final podium spot.
The next Drift Master GP will take place in Ireland, at Mondello Park from June 15, 2024 – June 16, 2024
