Interview with Kai Roger Bakken (KRB Trading)

by Vilius Šaltenis

KRB Trading is a long-standing Samsonas Motorsport dealer in Norway and this partnership has existed for more than 10 years. KRB is based in the west of Oslo and supplies Dynoservice with mapping of various engine management systems, sells all kinds of high-quality racing parts, and puts the customers’ needs first. Therefore we present an interview with Kai Roger Bakken, who tells his story about KRB

Could you tell us the story behind KRB?

KRB Trading started up in 1994. we had already several years in both rallycross and racing. We started playing with management systems and turbines quite early and have several builds on our way. The most famous one is the Tube frame Audi S1 replica, that we put in the prototype Samsonas 6 speed 4wd version. It was really drivable with the Subaru adjustable center diff compared to how it was earlier. It handled quite well the tremendous torque of the Audi 4.2 ltr turbo built up by KRB Trading 950 hp and 1200nm of NM. We now race a Lotus Esprit that has been the most winning team in Norwegian racing for several years but sadly no transaxle is available for this car from Samsonas.

How did the partnership with Samsonas Motorsport started?

We started to sell Samsonas products over 10 years ago. We felt that these transmissions filled a gap in our sales line and that was appreciated. Nice parts for the right price and a tough and strong gearbox that can handle the tremendous torque of these new-style turbo engines.

What is your customer feedback on the Samsonas parts?

They are very satisfied with the parts. The only wish is that delivery for new complete units will come down a bit like it was before.

What are the current activities of KRB  ?

We are a company that puts customers’ needs for fast response highly, we are fully available on all days.

We are now providing Dynoservice with mapping of several engine management systems, Selling all kinds of high-quality raceparts.

In which areas of the automotive industry does KRB work the most? (Various projects, drifting, racing, etc.)

We are mostly into the racing market but also serve rallycross, rally, and drifting cars with all their needs

What are your most important / best known / most famous customers and racing drivers?

We have been working closely with several European champions in rally cross, Formula drift champions, and Norwegian champions in Racing. In Gatebil Extreme we have a total championship in 10 years in time attack and 6 total championships in the extreme racing series

What is the situation in the automotive/racing sector in Norway?

It is a little bit quiet like everything else is with this economic situation but we are hanging in there.

Can you perhaps tell us what future projects look like for KRB?

I am working on a new race car we have really good hopes for. It’s a McLaren 650s GT3 factory car. We are going to squeeze in our own Audi v8 twin turbo package in this one too plus a full carbon body and a lot of aero with a DRS rear wing.
