by Vilius Šaltenis

Helstad Service, located in the north of Oslo, is the official Samsonas Motorsport dealer in Norway. The business is run by Odd-Helge Helstad, who is also a drifter and therefore knows the quality of Samsonas products from practical experience and also shares this with the Norwegian drifting and racing scene. Odd-Helge tells his story about his business and his drifting career.

Could you tell us the story behind Helstad Service?

Engaged in motorsport since 2011. always liked to build and operate in my own workshop, with my own car. So why not take it a step further and help customers too?

How did the partnership with Samsonas Motorsport started?

I bought my first Samsonas Dogbox in 2015. In 2016/17  I bought a Samsonas 6 Speed Universal RWD Sequential. In 2021 finally I Bought an RS90.
The partnership started in 2023, and Love it!

The cooperation works very well! The response is fast and the service is good. When customers ask me for spare parts, Samsonas delivers fast! Happy customers – happy dealers.

What is your customer feedback on the Samsonas parts?

Fast delivery and amazing quality!

What are the current activities of  Helstad Service?

Samsonas Gearbox, setup on drifting cars, fabrication.

In which areas of the automotive industry does  Helstad Service work the most? (Various projects, drifting, racing, etc.)

Drifting and racing

What are your most important / best known / most famous customers and racing drivers?

I think myself, I have my own drifting car.  I’ve been competing in the Norwegian drift championship and got first place back in 2014 and 2017. I have also participated in the Gatebil drift series – I can sum up with a bronze in 2018 and a silver in 2019.

My car is a Nissan s14 with a Toyota 2JZ engine. I have owned this car since 2011. I’ve been driving the car with Samsonas gearbox since 2016 I think, and very happy about how it works and how service friendly it is!

What can you tell about the drifting scene in Norway? Is drift popular in this country?

In the beginning, the environment was small, but it grows every year. In the middle of the summer, at the main event for Gatebil about 50,000 people visited, both young and old. Some are driving and others as audience.

The demand for Samsonas gearbox in the Norwegian drift community is growing, and that’s great!

Can you perhaps tell us what future projects look like for Helstad Service?

I want to have some Samsonas gearboxes in stock.
