This fall, Samsonas Motorsport became the official gearbox supplier of the NASCAR Euro Series. This means that all race cars competing in the NASCAR Euro Series will be equipped with the RS90 5-speed sequential gearbox from Samsonas Motorsport. This is an upgrade for the series, as the cars used manual H-pattern transmissions in previous seasons. So what are these NASCAR Euro Series cars racing in Europe?
The NASCAR Euro Series uses stock cars that are all the same and have many similarities to the race cars in the US. The cars have a tubular frame chassis which is widely used in stock cars and other racing disciplines such as Rally Raid, WRC etc. This type of chassis provides strength, safety and the ability to put panels on it, making the car look like an exact copy of a car with a classic chassis. In the case of NASCAR Euro Series: Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Toyota Camry. Tubular chassis are designed to meet very high safety standards. The additional panels on the tubular chassis are usually made of composite materials to reduce weight. Speaking of weight – the cars weigh 1225 kilograms.
The NASCAR Euro Series cars have only a limited aero package and the drivers have to rely mainly on mechanical grip and adjustable suspension. The car is powered by an old-school 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower transmitted to the rear wheels via a Samsonas Motorsport RS90 5-speed sequential gearbox. These cars reach a top speed of 245 km/h. These cars have a data logging system to help the engineers. The connection to the race track is provided by Hoosier 330/700 R15 tires mounted on 10.5 x 15” rims. A 330 mm ventilated brake disk provides the braking effect.
The most important and amazing idea of the NASCAR Euro Series is that all cars are the same, equipped with the same parts and the main components are sealed. These cars have a minimum of electronics and only mechanical grip, so the results depend on the pure effort of the driver. That’s why this series is also called Pure Racing.
