James Deane becomes Oman International Drift Champion

Last Thursday and Friday, the final round of the Oman International Drift Championship took place in Muscat. Normally, the best drifters had no problem finishing in the top 32 in qualifying, but there was a surprise at the top. Thursday’s qualifying was won by Nikolas Bertrans from Latvia, who also uses a Samsonas gearbox. He collected 96.3 points, while James Deane and Benediktas Čirba scored the same 95,3 points.

Three drivers could become Oman International Drift Champion – in the best position was James Deane, but Ahmad Daham and Juha Rintanen also had chances. While Juha Rintanen was defeated by Clint van Oort in the battle for the top 16, James Deane and Ahmad Daham met in the top 8. It was an intense duel and the judges even called “One more time” twice. After a very even fight, James Deane advanced to the semi-finals, where he defeated Benediktas Čirba. In the final, the Irishman met and won against Ali Maksheed and also secured the title of Oman International Drift Champion. The battle for third place between Benediktas Čirba and Hazaa Al Hosani ended with the Lithuanian making it onto the podium.
