Interview with Erik Qvick (Qvick Motors)

Qvick Motors, based in Belgium, is a Samsonas Motorsport dealer and a great partner in the Benelux region. Erik Qvick manages the workshop with various projects where cars for rallying, circuit racing, rally-cross and historic racing are serviced and prepared. Erik has agreed to share his thoughts on his business, the past and the future and the connection with Samsonas Motorsports

Could you tell us the story behind Qvick Motors?

As a child, I was always passionate about cars and motorsport. Together with my father, I visited a lot of race tracks. And I decided real quickly that I wanted to do something with cars in my later professional life. That’s why I studied automotive technics and later on, started working in a garage. After I graduated, I started to drive with karts. And as soon as I could afford it, I started to drive race cars. In my professional life, I made the shift from working on regular cars to racing and rally cars as well. So my hobby and passion turned into my full-time job, which is very nice of course. For a couple of years, my son works with me as well. So it has become a family business.

How did the partnership with Samsonas Motorsport started?

My interest in Samsonas grew when I got one gearbox in maintenance in my workshop. I was immediately very impressed by the quality of the product. My wife was born in Lithuania and with her help, I visited Samsonas in +/- 2012. And that’s how the cooperation started.

What is your customer feedback on the Samsonas parts?

It’s a well-known brand in Belgium and the Benelux as the quality of the parts is very high. And it remains affordable. That combination is why my customers like working with Samsonas as well.

What are the current activities of Qvick Motors?

We are currently specializing ourselves more and more in historic race cars. With these cars, we participate in history races. Of course, we are still active in other races and rallies (in the Belgian championships).

In which areas of the automotive industry does Qvick Motors work the most? (Various projects, drifting, racing, etc.)

Racing, historic races, rally, and rally cross.

What are your most important / best known / most famous customers and racing drivers?

Thierry Boutsen (former F1 driver)
Frank Stippler (official Audi factory driver)
Paul Lietaer (famous Belgian rally driver)
Vanina Ickx (daughter of Jacky Ickx and a race driver as well)

What is the situation in the automotive/racing sector in the Benelux region?

Since the pandemic, there have been fewer races. And Brexit played a part as well.
The Benelux is quite small. There are certainly fewer cars built now than before.

Can you perhaps tell us what future projects look like for  Qvick Motors?

We are currently building a Group 5 Schnitzer replica. And we restored the original DRM 1978 winner.
We’re also building a BMW 635 CSI Group 2. And we are soon starting a new project for which we will cooperate with Samsonas.
In general, we are now focussing more on the historic cars. In my opinion, that’s where our future lies in the Benelux.
